Isobutanol is used as a solvent for surface coatings and adhesives, as a good fat extractant, in cosmetics, solvents, cleaning agents and hydraulic fluids, as well as in the synthesis of organic compounds.

Isobutyl alcohol forms azeotropic mixtures with water and toluene containing 67-70% and 44.5% isobutyl alcohol and boiling at 89.8 ° C and 101.2 ° C, respectively.
