Anisole (methoxybenzene, methylphenyl ether)

It is used in industry in the production of pharmaceuticals, fragrances (obepin, acetylanisole), pesticides (analogue of methoxychlor), as a solvent, as an intermediate product in the production of cresol in a two-stage reaction.

It can be used as an anti-knock additive for gasoline.
