Oxygen scavenger
ALPHANEUTRAL-О2

It is used to remove (neutralize) dissolved oxygen in both fresh and saline waters: intake lines of the pumping station, discharge lines of the water intake, fresh and saline water pipelines, as well as to prevent corrosion of oilfield equipment due to the presence of oxygen.

According to OST 39-225-88 "Water for waterflooding of oil reservoirs. Quality Requirements ", the content of dissolved oxygen in the water injected into the reservoir should not exceed 0.5 mg/l. ALFANEUTRAL-O2 significantly reduces the content of dissolved oxygen in oilfield fluids and minimizes oxygen corrosion of equipment, as well as increases the efficiency of corrosion inhibitors.

Traces of oxygen dissolved in water can corrode the drill string. ALPHANEUTRAL-O2 is continuously dosed by a suction pump to minimize contact with atmospheric oxygen, since the reagent is quickly consumed when it comes into contact with the atmosphere. The reagent acts as a corrosion inhibitor by removing oxygen from the drilling fluid or completion fluid during circulation.

It is necessary to control the sulfite ions at the outlet using an excess sulfite test to determine if the residual amount of the scavenger is sufficient. When the liquid returns to the surface, it comes into contact with the atmosphere again and begins to absorb oxygen, as a result of which the effective concentration of the oxygen scavenger drops. Samples should be taken as close to the exit point as possible.

Initially, the oxygen scavenger is pumped at a rate of 3 to 9 l/h at the suction pump. The determination of sulfite is performed with the liquid collected at the outlet, the injection volume is adjusted upward or downward depending on the results of the determination of the detected sulfite ions.

The recommended excess sulfite content is 100-300 mg/l at the outlet. This level ensures that the drilling fluid contains enough oxygen scavenger to the required level. Corrosion rings can be used to control the corrosion rate over several days of drilling in order to evaluate the overall corrosion program.
Benefits of ALPHANEUTRAL-O2
  • Good performance
  • High speed oxygen scavenging reaction
  • Low reagent consumption
  • Storage stability
  • Significant reduction in corrosion rate during thermochemical treatment of wells
  • Prolonged protection of oilfield equipment
Restrictions
  • The reagent is sensitive to the calcium content in the liquid, therefore the hardness should not exceed 2000 mg/l
  • The oxygen scavenger must not be added to containers with caustic soda - this will lead to the release of gaseous ammonia and may cause an explosion!
  • Avoid very high pH levels - if the pH is above 10, gaseous ammonia may be released from the drilling fluid
  • Reagent incompatible with glutaraldehyde biocides - biocide can be added before use, but biocidal activity is lost when oxygen scavenger is added
